Ingrid Irigoyen is the Senior Director, Market Innovation, for the Aspen Institute Energy and Environment Program (EEP), where she leads EEP’s work designing and implementing new approaches to catalyze, strengthen, and scale markets for sustainable and low-carbon supply chain alternatives. She also serves as the President and CEO of the Zero Emission Maritime Buyers Alliance (ZEMBA), a non-profit organization and first-of-its-kind maritime buyers group that accelerates commercial deployment of clean energy-powered shipping, enables economies of scale for first movers, and supports corporate freight buyer engagement in maritime clean energy policy.
Building on ZEMBA’s success, Ingrid leads her team in exploring new opportunities to dismantle market barriers and ignite demand in other sectors such as critical materials (e.g., plastics, metals) and sustainable natural resources (e.g., fisheries). A sought-after expert, Ingrid is a regular invited speaker at premier international conferences and a frequent contributor to global media outlets, including Reuters, The New York Times, and the Financial Times.
Prior to joining Aspen in 2018, she was a Senior Mediator and Program Manager at Meridian Institute, where she devoted 13 years to the design and execution of collaborative multi-stakeholder sustainability solutions, with a special focus on oceans and coasts. Previously, among other positions, Ingrid was a John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellow with the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She holds a Masters of Environmental Management from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of New Hampshire.
