Adaptation & Resilience Policy
At the Energy & Environment Program, we believe that innovative climate solutions of today have the power to help the world reach its climate goals so that communities of tomorrow can thrive. Critical to creating thriving communities is a committed focus on Adaptation and Resilience. EEP’s Adaptation and Resilience work convenes a diverse group of stakeholders from across society focused on disasters such a wildfire and flooding, U.S. water infrastructure and innovation through our annual Aspen-Nicholas Water Forum and the Aspen National Water Strategy Initiative, as well as work focused on environmental justice and trust building in communities
Aspen-Nicholas Water Forum
The annual Aspen-Nicholas Water Forum, co-led with Duke University’s Nicholas Institute, convenes thought leaders to address ongoing challenges to water sustainability in the United States. Participants come from the private sector, government, academia, and non-governmental organizations—representing expertise in industry, finance, philanthropy, government, academia, agriculture, food and technology companies, investors and entrepreneurs. Past forums have explored big data, innovative financing, water quality, and water affordability. The common thread linking each forum is the fundamental question of what does good water governance look like for the United States?
Aspen National Water Strategy Initiative
Co-led with Duke University’s Nicholas Institute and the Lawrence-Berkeley National Laboratory, the Aspen National Water Strategy Initiative coordinates research efforts and convenings across critical topics, including policy, emerging technologies, conservation, security, and financial trends. The Aspen Water Strategy Group within the initiative plays a vital role in identifying key issues essential for a national water strategy and articulating fundamental principles for U.S. water governance.
